About

We are mad about gardening! Chances are, you are too. Or maybe you’re not yet, but you think you might like to give it a go. Either way we hope that you find some useful and inspiring information here.

Gardening: possibly the best thing you could do for yourself

Nearly all gardeners nowadays garden for pleasure. Of course in times past a vegetable patch would’ve supplied food for the household. But today it’s just as simple to drive to the supermarket for your potatoes, tomatoes and green beans.

Over time, gardening has evolved from a survival necessity to a creative and rewarding pastime that lets you get a bit of sun and fresh air, dig your hands into the dirt, and at the end of the day finish up with something rewarding and tangible. A great deal more than just a source of veggies or flowers, tending a garden these days is a treat, almost a spiritual experience. There are intangible benefits too, it’s fantastic for your health for one.

Studies have revealed that people growing their own veggies eat more vegetables than those who buy solely from the grocery store. The reason is simple. Which do you imagine is going to taste better, a tomato grown under a hot light and and picked before it’s ripened, or a freshly grown, naturally ripe tomato that you grew yourself?

The fact is that gardening introduces the world of vegetables to a lot of people who’ve never known just how delicious they can be. After your first year you might find you can’t wait for the growing season to start, anticipating the taste of those delicious fresh veggies.

The benefits of gardening are not restricted to vegetable gardeners either. Tending and cultivating a garden, be it vegetables, flowers, herbs or whatever else, gives you an emotional release that lets you relax in a unique way. The mild physical exertion needed for gardening is sufficient to get your blood moving. Which in turn awakens your mind and calms nervousness. Gardeners oftentimes spend hours by themselves, giving them time to reflect and rejuvenate while being productive. It’s a great feeling.

As a matter of fact, horticultural therapy is a kind of emotional therapy based on using gardening to improve, relax, and refresh the mind and soul. The opportunity to breathe some fresh air and commune with nature can do most of us a world of good.

Not much is required to get started gardening. In point of fact, it’s among the most inexpensive hobbies out there. If you’re able to, partion off a tiny corner of your yard and begin daydreaming about what you might like to grow. If an outdoor garden is out of the question, e.g., if you live in an apartment or don’t have a yard, try bonsai, or raising flowers and herbs in pots on a balcony or windowsill.

No matter what your circumstances are there’s likely to be a type of gardening to suit you. Gardening is a rewarding pastime with a multitude of benefits, and we encourage you to pursue it.
